giving good copy

In this light speed world in which we live, it’s easy to forget the power of really good copy.

Copy is part of the experience. And for first time visitors, copy can create a purpose and set a tone far more quickly than shiny new technology.

In our cut and paste times, good chunks of copy become anchor points for how you’re described across the web. When I wrote the original manifesto copy for this site, I had no idea it would be copy/pasted in almost every blog post the site was referenced.

Maybe we started neglecting copy when designers started using lorem ipsum generators. Or maybe it’s because suddenly every company deserved a website – the same boring website as everyone else. Side note: a race for parity never ends well.

Anyhow, good copy makes you stand out among a sea of drivel. Amit knows it. And Woot does, too. Like every thing else about your brand, copy has to come from an honest and authentic place, but that doesn’t mean it has to be sanitized and hermetically sealed for general consumption.

Do me this favor – punch it up.

I’ll be interested if you’ll be interesting.
