there’s more time than the present

How do we design experiences with an understanding for how humans perceive time?

I’ve been obsessed with this deck from Matt Jones ever since I posted it last week. Presented with a few days off myself, my obsession was allowed to run rampant. I cherry picked quite a few things from his presentation and then dug a little deeper with the help of a couple books and the internet.

I would have liked to spend a wee bit more time with this one, but I’m trying out this new philosophy of not letting ‘the perfect be the enemy of the good.’

I’d love to hear some thoughts on this one, so donate your two cents in the comments.

  1. Monster idea here.

I’d love to see that time perception chart translated into more familiar language.

Definitely worth revisiting in a follow up post.

  2. Happy Birthday. Fantastically mind-blowing. I’m interested in designing experiences that find clever ways to tow the line between planning mode and exploration mode, and creating a seamless flow from one to the next and back again. Very nice work here.

  3. Happy birthday Bud!

Good stuff, and I agree with the reference to Matt Jones’ presentation – truly epic.

Personally I’ve found Adam Greenfield’s thoughts on “The long here and the big now” very interesting.

Greenfield puts it into the context of the digital cities, which only makes it more interesting.

This is a presentation he did at Picnic last year.
